Regionale Vernetzung und Translation mit Seminaren für Master Studenten und Doktoranden

2 SWS, 3 LP/ 3 credits (später als Modul mit 5 LP)

Beginn der Vorlesung: 29.11.2017 dann immer mittwochs von 16:15-18 Uhr (SR 34.16/17) zweiwöchentlich und alternierend mit der Vorlesung gehalten. Anfangs mit Anleitung zur Vorlesung und später für Vorträge der Studenten zu bestimmten Themen oder zur Präsentation einer Projektidee

The aim of the course TransProIdee is to teach master and PhD students of natural sciences how to translate a scientific idea into a business concept or research project. In a series of lectures, young scientifically oriented founders of startup companies will present their career paths to provide general insights into the development of research-oriented companies. A focus will be also on the financial and economic aspects of project ideas, which have to be considered carefully.
In a series of seminars, guidelines for the preparation of scientific proposals and business plans will be given. In addition, the potential and applicability of different project ideas will be evaluated by discussing various case studies. In the end of the course, the students will present their own project ideas in form of a scientific proposal, business plan or short oral presentation.

Drug targeting and molecular imaging (3 credits)

Overheads

1. Principles of therapeutic drugs (classes, modes of action, chemical examples) and treatment modalities (chemotherapy, anti-angiogenesis, physical methods photodynamic therapy, radiotherapy)

2. Background on pharmacology (pharmacokinetics, ADMET) and principles of "drug delivery" and "drug targeting," passive vs active targeting. Molecular imaging: basic principles of diagnostic modalties

3. Signalling molecules: mode of action, chemistry, examples: applications as tool to monitor and evaluate drug targeting and therapeutic efficacy ("theranostics")
4. Synthetic chemistry for drug conjugation (reactive groups, cleavable groups)
5. Drug targeting and molecular imaging based on biologic targeting molecules: antibodies, proteins, peptides, glycans, oligonucleotides
6. Drug targeting and imaging based on formulations, polymers, nanoparticles, dendrimers: principles, chemistry, examples
7. Basics of drug development: clinical phases, IND, drug master file
